Always a challenge finding players over long weekends and having matches scheduled this ANZAC weekend was no different, especially as the draw comes out so close to the season.
Still, after a fair amount of shuffling we put out a team with plenty of Demon power to take on Goannas who are sitting in a very similar situation as us.
Some complacency probably seeped into the first quarter and we gave them a 4 goal start.
Coach has been told she’s been a bit too relaxed with the players so here was her opportunity to talk bold and demand some better efforts and accountability especially from the regular Prem grade players.
Players took it onboard with a much improved 2nd quarter and even better second half, keeping Parra to only 2 goals while we still managed our own forward 50 entries and this week converted one with a well struck set shot from Sophie Pendleberry from 38metres out.
Our Handball efficiency improved with the third quarter reaching. 90%, and an increase in uncontested marks on offense as we moved the ball quickly from our back half.
Superb on debut was Molly Maguire, and some outstanding efforts from Amber Reveley with her tackle pressure in the forward line. Pendles was again an added gem to the midfield working in so well with Amelia Bennett and newcomer Lillie Ward. We got to see some glimpses of just the power and ability that Dani Keller will bring as she learns more in role of Ruck.
Another great learning experience a group with very little gametime together. We will continue to build on areas of the contests we are winning and work towards turning that into scoreboard outcomes.
Our best lead by young star in the making Greta Clatworthy, Sophie Pendlebury, Lillian Ward, Caitlin Gurney, Amber Reveley, Ashleigh Grubba with Greta also being voted best in our Players Player votes.
