Written by David Redden for AFL Sydney:
Pennant Hills had to produce an enormous final term to defeat UNSW-ES by 27 points at Henson Park. Final scores were Pennant Hills 9.13.67 to UNSW-ES 5.10.40.
As the rain fell in the first half, the Demons kicked 3 goals to 1 in the second quarter to lead by 13 points at the main break. An inspired Bulldogs kicked 3 goals to 1 behind in the third quarter to lead by 7 points at the final change, with the Demons out-hustled and outrun by a UNSW-ES team determined to produce a huge upset.
Pennant Hills must have copped a reality check in the three-quarter time huddle, as they were a completely different team in the fourth term, on the back of dominant ruckman Charles Allison, who played one of the individual quarters of the MPD as he was the catalyst for a 5 goal to 0 final term.
The Bulldogs will be disappointed after being in front with 30 minutes to go, whilst Pennant Hills will have breathed a collective sigh of relief after securing a crucial 4 points, with Sydney Uni’s big win over the Wolves keeping the Demons in 4th place on a crowded ladder.
Nick Hey and Oscar Irwin kicked 3 goals each for Pennant Hills.
