Match Report

Greetings, fellow Demon fans! It's your favorite mascot, The Penno Demon, here to bring you a recap of our first-round clash at Bob Prenter Reserve against the SWS Blues. It was an exhilarating match filled with lessons and some fantastic moments from our Penno boys.

The atmosphere was electric as the game kicked off at 1:00 pm, and our team was ready to make their mark. Let's break down the action quarter by quarter:

First Quarter:
Our Penno team started with determination, matching the Blues goal for goal. We ended the quarter with 2 goals and 1 behind, just trailing behind the Blues with 2 goals and 4 behinds. The score was close at 13 to 16 in favor of the Blues.

Second Quarter:
This quarter proved to be a tough one for us, as we found ourselves under pressure. We managed to add just 1 behind to our tally, while the Blues extended their lead with 1 goal and 4 behinds. By halftime, the score stood at 14 to 26.

Third Quarter:
The Penno spirit shone brightly after the break! Our boys rallied with an impressive 3 goals and 2 behinds, while the Blues were held to just 1 goal and 4 behinds. We clawed our way back into the game, bringing the scoreline to a thrilling 34 to 36. It was anyone's game!

Fourth Quarter:
The final quarter saw the Blues edge ahead with a strong performance, securing 5 goals and 2 behinds. Our players showed great heart, adding 2 goals and 1 behind to our score, but ultimately, the game concluded with the Blues winning 68 to 48.

Final Score: MPD 7.5 (47) to SWS Blues 9.14 (68)

Despite the loss, it was a spirited effort from our team, and there's so much to be proud of. Our best players stepped up, with Aidan Russell showing exceptional skills, Mitchell Blow and Josh Stern making crucial contributions, and Cooper Lee showcasing his talent with a goal. Charlie Allison and Stephen Wray also played pivotal roles in fighting hard throughout the match.

The lessons learned today are invaluable, and as we regroup, we're more determined than ever to come back stronger in our next game. Remember, it's only a trial match, and we've got plenty of time to refine our strategies.

Thank you to our coach Deon Crowden, and to our loyal fans for their unwavering support. Let's keep the Demon spirit high and look forward to the next battle against Manly at home in round 2.

Until next time, stay fierce and go Penno!

Yours demonically,
The Penno Demon

ROUND 1 - PENNANT HILLS DEMONS UNDER 19 DIV 1 (14.15.99) defeated SOUTH WEST SYDNEY (0.4.4) – SATURDAY 28th March 2026 BOB PRENTER RESERVE MAQUARIE FIELDS
MATCH REPORT

“Perfect Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance”
Runds 1 is here, and a great day for the U19 Div 1 team with an exciting win to start the season. We have trained so hard for what seems an eternity to get to round 1. The boys were keen and well prepared. After a difficult time around the selection table with some very talented players not getting a spot in the top 22, we went in with a fit and strong line up and more than half the team new debutants for U19 div 1.
Bob Prenter is a big space with room for players who are prepared to do the hard work. In Q1 our tackle pressure was excellent early with Mark and Isaac, and our first forward entry was clean between Dinsmore, Mark and Lackas. Sam at half forward was in it early and kicked our first goal on the run. The linking play between Chapple, Dinsmore, then Will who marked and kicked our second. Henry W was strong and Billy took two strong defensive marks, but it was Sam who dominated for us in the first qtr up forward. There was a 3 goal breeze favoring the northern end early and we were against it, but had all the play in our forward half. We had 8 inside 50s for 3 goals.
Q2 saw Dilan from deep in defence take an opportunity on the run for our first goal. Our defensive craft again was strong with Toby marking and switching the ball on the far side. We had plenty of the ball but were not efficient with our forward entries. We were leading too early, cramping our forward space, and playing some chaotic football seeing the ball caught deep in the dead pockets. We kicked only 2 goals with the wind advantage and then a third goal right on half time – from 13 inside 50s !!. At half time we explained our inefficiencies and wasted efforts. We were effectively winning 50/50s but needed more structured leading patterns and discipline to hold our structures and create more open space for our marking forwards. Too many kicks from low scoring or difficult positions. We could do much better.
Q3 we were against the wind again and kicked a goal in the first minute, linking Ben, Eamon, Lackas, Dinsmore and over to Sam. Dilan and Henry A were strong down back, and Lackas forward tackle pressure superb. Toby down back was clean with his execution. Jack was solid at CHB creating turnover and corridor runs. Great passage of play from Sam over to Mark and kick to Lackas for a goal. Dilan was clean from deep in defence and Henry A was leading the way with tackle pressure. SWS could not break our defence. We had 14 tackles for the qtr, 10 inside 50s and 4 goals. Much better team play. We had adjusted well after half time.
Q4 we switched Jack and Henry A to the mids and were strong with centre clearance. We shared the ball cleanly and opened up the ground to create forward opportunities – this saw goals shared between Dinsmore, Lackas and Sam. We started to see our team craft work well with our zone defence holding the ball in our forward half, holding shape, and giving the first clear option to a running player. We were rewarded for our team craft and delivery to logical goal scoring zones from inside 50 rather than trying to score from deep pockets or outside 50. 10 tackles, 12 inside 50s, 4 goals. 24 tackles in the second half – solid. SWS were not as fit or as structured as we were and the score board reflected the craft on display. An awesome first up result and something to build on as we fine tune our game plan and structures as we prepare for some strong opposition in the coming weeks.
Many players shared the accolades today and it was hard to select our best from an even performance.
Top players included – Henry Williams, Lakas, Dinsmore, Sam, Will A, Mark, Noah Dunn, Billy, Chapple.
Our best were – Noah Dinsmore – had great forward craft and pace off the mark to open them up across half forward. Could have kicked more goals.
Sam Austin – creative and explosive off half forward and kicked 4 goals.
Jacob Lackas – dominated his opposition with his speed, leading patterns and marking – 3 goals.
Josh Chapple – in control from centre clearance and distribution.
Bill Baker – intercept marking and dominance across half back where the opposition could not get past him.
Mark Mifsud – head over the ball and scrambling at ground balls saw him come out on top more often.
Noah Dunn – fit and dominant from wing and had plenty of the ball.
Enjoy the Easter Break, but be prepared to work hard on the training track as we fine tune our game plan for the big round 2 clash against last years premiers Manly.

Match Report

The newly completed facility out at Ingleburn looks very Special. Sunshine, fresh turf, and a breeze so gentle it felt like it was personally wishing us luck. A perfect day for footy, a perfect day for running, and — depending on your fitness — a perfect day for
finding out just how big this ground actually is. (Spoiler: enormous. NASA could land a shuttle on the wing.)

Despite its size, we were ready. The preseason miles in the legs weren’t just useful — they were essential. Those of you in the lower grades who might have enjoyed a more “social” approach to preseason would not have survived out there. GPS trackers were filing formal complaints.

Final Score
South West Sydney Blues: 9.7 (61)
Pennant Hills Demons: 10.6 (66)
Result: Pennant Hills by 5 points

Yes — a hardearned Dub, sealed late, and celebrated even better.

The Match...

We started strongly, moved the ball well, and had a real sense of composure across the ground. Boyd got to work early, proving once again that if you put the ball within a 20metre radius of him, he’ll find it, crash the pack, or simply bend physics to make the contest go his way. Five goals later, the Boyd Factory continued its approved, highvolume production.

Our mids worked tirelessly from the first bounce. The onball brigade stuck to their task all day with discipline — bodying up, scrapping, pestering, scragging, and doing all the onepercenters that make coaches grin and forwards sleep soundly at night.
Their defensive accountability was superb and set the tone for the way we transitioned into attack.

Stormy ran like a man who heard someone say “free beer at the end of the game.” His work rate was off the charts. If every player worked like Stormy, we’d need five extra trainers, two ambulances, and a defibrillator installed in the coaches’ box.

King turned back the clock with a vintage clutch goal in the last quarter — the kind of fifinish that makes you nod slowly and go, “Yep… he’s still got it.” Somewhere deep in the club archives, VHS tapes buzzed in approval.

Meanwhile, Pinks showed his steady class, reading the game beautifully and doing the necessary team acts with composure and a smirk that said, “Don’t worry boys, I’ve got it sorted.”

Muzz deserves credit too. After adjusting his game midmatch, he responded like a seasoned pro — lifting his work rate, shifting his positioning, and showing real character. You love to see it.

And then we get to the heart of the story: the backline.
Darcy Carnahan didn’t just play well — he practically ran a TED Talk back there. His communication, leadership, and command were so strong the rest of the team may consider paying tuition. Every defensive setup, every switch, every transition had his
fingerprints all over it. Well deserved that he walked away with the $50 Player of the
Day AND the SWS BOG sixpack. (Word is he celebrated responsibly. Word is also highly unreliable.)

Kieran Wright, meanwhile — the General. Calm, composed, precise. If there was a fire in the backline, Kiz would extinguish it before it spread and then politely remind everyone to avoid unnecessary risks in future.

Then there’s Big Roman. What a performance. “Dominated” doesn’t even cover it. He was enormous in the air, monstrous on the ground, and at times appeared to be playing several positions simultaneously. It’s no surprise he took home the $50 Flex
Player of the Day. If he gets any better, we may need to commission a statue. Possibly lifesized. Possibly in bronze.

Our debutants, Jye and Thor, deserve huge credit as well. Debuting in front of a big crowd on a huge ground under pressure is tough, but they fought through it with genuine effort, heart, and resilience. Jye also picked up the $50 Coach’s Award, further proof of the work he put in.

Now let’s talk about the opposition — because despite the scoreboard, this was no cruise to the finish. The South West Sydney “mosquito fleet” came at us hard late. They had legs, speed, numbers, and about 145 small forwards who all seem to be able to run 16km per match without sweating. Credit to them — they surged in the last and hit the front with momentum.

That’s when the character of our group shone through. We steadied. We held shape. We won contests. We slowed the tempo. And we launched one final push that sealed the result. It was gutsy, disciplined, and deserved. The sort of finish that makes a coach puff out their chest and pretend they always knew it would end that way.

(Special mentions to the entire midfield for their structure and discipline, and the backline for being the most communicative group since the invention of group chats.)

Final Thoughts...

The boys rallied when it mattered. They held firm in the tough patches. They stood up when challenged. And they finished strong in a game that was as physical as it was fast.
- The coaching group couldn’t be prouder.
- The song afterwards? Electric.
- The beers? Exhilarating.
- The feeling? Exactly why we play.

To the players in other grades — keep building, keep pushing, keep preparing. You’ll get your turn on these big stages.

To the Div 1 boys — enjoy the win, enjoy the moment, and recover well. Big season ahead.

And to the club as a whole — For those that stayed, thanks for the support, the energy, and the noise. We heard you.

Bring on next week. Up the Penno.
