Match Report

What an awesome effort by the team today. Starting with 19, down to 16 before half time and then to 14 for the last quarter required a team effort across the field. And wow did the girls turn it on. We started with a jump. Some really good work to get clean clearance on the outside and then run to feed the ball deep into our forward 50. We had a short forward line, so it was our pace and tenacity that had to overcome tall defense. Our forward line bought this on in spades. Lots of quick runs from front and square positions saw us pepper the goal line. We have found a real pacer in this role through Tiarne on her debut, kicking a goal.
Sophie Pendlebury led from the front. Giving us lots of drive out of the middle. Taking on the defensive line and kicking a goal was from her run was great reward for the effort throughout the match. But what a jet Mia, showing lot of run and confidence to kick three for the match.
It was tough to pick a top six today as it was a team effort. but special mentions must go to:
Sophie
Lousie Carter - getting better each week with great confidence
Elize Michie - very solid in both defense and attack
Jemima Cusack - on debut gave great contest and run
Molle Faehrmann - what a little jet. Lots of attack and run and carry
Bronte - awesome drive and commitment to the ball
Laura - gave us an awesome start with calmness in congestion.
As I said an awesome team effort. To those who backed up, thank you so much. Sienna you have domne this twice in two weeks and have used all the gas in the tank both times. We love what you give.

Congratulations girls, enjoy the win. It came from being committed to be first to the ball, pick it up and then use each other to go forward. Then our fast jests in the forward line converted. They were well supported by our strong defense who launched attack after attack.
A proud day to be part of this team win. We continue to build

Match Report

From a coaching point of view, this match was a clear reflection of where we are building towards — and what still needs tightening up.

We were slow out of the blocks, and in the first half we didn’t help ourselves. At ground level we were hesitant to put our head over the ball and the ball seemed like a cake of soap, we lacked composure at our feet, and our turnovers coming out of contest and half forward hurt us badly. Camden capitalised on those mistakes and were able to control territory and tempo early, which saw us head into the main break well behind on the scoreboard.

At the level, those basics matter — and for the first two quarters we simply didn’t execute them consistently enough.
However, what was most pleasing was the response.

At half time the hard questions were asked by the coaches around intent, accountability, and belief in our process. The second half was a strong answer to those questions. Our pressure lifted noticeably, our contest work became far more reliable, and we began to value the ball when it mattered most. That allowed us to get the game back on our terms and turn momentum significantly.

The third quarter was particularly encouraging, as we played with purpose, won territory, and put Camden under genuine stress. We backed that up in the final quarter, continuing to chip away and closing the margin back to single digits. While we couldn’t quite complete the comeback, the fight, belief and connection shown after halftime were exactly what this group needs to take confidence from.

The final quarter’s centre structure and discipline returned. It’s the little things that count in there and our on ball crew knuckled down and switched to single cogs in a bigger gear box. Even the little things count in here and when the boys 1%ters engaged the machine ran at 100%.

Importantly, this match showed our progress year on year. Last season, Pennant Hills didn’t have the quality or consistency to genuinely run with a side that went on to be 2025 Grand Finalists. This time around, we were far more competitive, matched them for long periods, and showed that we belong at this level when we commit to our process.

Individually, there were strong contributions across the group. Zac Morris (who received the cash for BOG) led from the front with his competitiveness and work rate. Matt Carey (Coaches $50 recipient) provided calm leadership and composure when the game was there to be wrestled back. Ben Lamb (Flex Logistics player) was instrumental in the second half surge, while Harvey Barrett continues to develop and give us consistent effort around the ground. Damian Ballard was disciplined and dependable in his role, and Jy Windle brought energy and fight that lifted those around him.

There are lots of positives to take out of this match. We proved that we are better than where we were, that we can challenge high quality opposition, and that when we trust the process and execute our fundamentals, we can put ourselves in positions to win.

The challenge now is to start games the way we finish them. If we do that, and if we stick to the process we are building, the results will come — including against teams like Camden.

Match Report

Against East Coast, our local rival on their “Back to Baulko” day at their home deck, we put together a four-quarter performance to run out winners 19.16 (130) to 4.7 (31).

The tone was set early, as we raced out of the blocks to establish a five-goal lead at quarter time. That momentum carried into the second term, where sustained pressure and control saw the margin extend to 55 points by the main break, effectively putting the
game beyond doubt.

A key pillar of the performance was the defensive unit, which once again stood tall restricting East Coast to just four goals for the match, led strongly by Stephen Wray and Oliver Williams. The back six not only nullified the Eagles’ forward entries but consistently launched attacking chains, turning defence into offence.

Their ability to drive off half back and connect through handball chains with run and carry was a defining feature of the game, proving dynamic and difficult to contain.

The forward group also played a critical role, holding their structure and creating space, allowing for higher-quality entries inside 50. Combined with strong midfield contest work, we were able to control territory and generate a high volume of scoring opportunities.

Offensively, the scoreboard reflected the team’s cohesion and building depth. Nick Hey and Oscar Irwin led the way with four goals apiece, while skipper Mitchell Blow, alongside Josh Stern and Darcy Carnahan, each contributed three goals in a well- rounded attacking performance.

Josh Stern’s impact across the ground was recognised with both Best on Ground and Players’ Player, highlighting his influence and consistency throughout the day. Oscar Irwin’s strong four-goal performance was also rewarded with the Coaches Award.

Overall, it was an exciting performance that highlights the progress being made, but we remain realistic that it is a long season and we are far from the finished product.

We will continue to focus on our energy, intent, and connection to challenge each opposition side we come up against, starting with our annual Anzac Day fixture against Inner West at Picken Oval this Saturday so please come on down to support the club with 1:10pm first bounce.

Match Report

Not normally one for cliche’s though this really was a game of two halves.
We started strong, winning the first hit out and clearance and taking the ball deep into our Forward 50. A couple of shots on goal though we couldn’t get the ball to cross the line. East Coast were tough in defense and after 5 minutes managed to clear the ball to their forwards who were shown plenty of resistance from our defenders before the first score of the game came at the 7th minute mark.
With the new players backing up from last week, and a couple more this week, we played like a team with a few seasons under our belt.
The second quarter was similar, some solid ball movement deep into our forward 50, just couldn’t get it across the line for any type of score. We won plenty of stoppages and got the ball forward, though Eagles defense was tight.

The second half looked a little different. Third quarter we battled strong, with young teens Ava Clegg, Steph Este and on debut Ella Gillard showing steely determination and working in with new guns Kay Bleza and Allanah Pillon to energise the ball from our defence.
A couple of injuries reduced our bench, and by the fourth quarter the legs were worn. The few who played earlier for our Divvies had been some of our fiercest tacklers though looked quite wary after some intense battles and running in the heat of the day. Eagles often getting frustrated by so much resistance, saw one player sent from the field for over zealous conduct.

Conceding 5 goals in the first half of the game and then 5 goals in that last quarter made the scoreboard look a lot more favourable to the Eagles than it actually was on the field.

We battled, we had some deep opportunities around goal, a few long range set shots, and plenty of clean clearances showing the potential of this young team, young in game experience and young in age.
Our captain Amelia Bennett took her game to another level, whilst youngsters Caitlyn Gurney and Ava Clegg really stood up playing some of their best.
Charis Zacharis, Grace Michie, and Ash Grubba were also some of our solid contributors today making the top 6 a very hard task to select.

Players player again a 3 way tie, confirming so many outstanding efforts across the whole team: Caitlyn Gurney, Ava Clegg and Amelia Bennett.

Top 6 were Ava Clegg Amelia Bennett

Match Report

Autumn turned it on again — blue skies, sunshine, and a cheeky bag of optimism.

After watching our Div 3 side take the field with grit and determination, the question was simple: could our U20s bring the same?

With three of our crew promoted to Prems and a handful unavailable, we took the field with minimum numbers. The brief remained the same — Fun. Contest. Defence. The girls rolled up their sleeves, ready for a tough day.

Lining up 5-6-3 meant we gave up a little forward presence, with North Shore playing a loose spare. The first quarter was about finding our feet — adjusting to structure and working out how to move the ball.

Sienna, backing up after a full Div 3 game, was out on her feet from the start — but you wouldn’t know it. She competed relentlessly in the ruck, giving us first use and setting the tone. Charlee added a different edge, taking the ball cleanly and bursting out of stoppage to spark some exciting passages of play.

With some smart rotations through the middle, Mia stepped up and nailed our first goal. A strong opening quarter saw us edge ahead — 1.2 (8) to 1.0 (6).

Our forward pressure lifted in the second, driven by some outstanding work off half-back.
Lucy Crean was electric — rebounding hard, taking space, and driving the ball forward with intent. Katie H, despite her earlier “I hate being a back Wilko,” showed exactly why she was there — strong tackles, smart positioning, and clean execution.
We struck early — four seconds into the quarter — and added two more behinds to extend the lead: 2.4 (16) to 1.1 (7).

The third quarter was where the game was won.
Both sides came out hungry. We struck first, but North Shore responded quickly with two goals to close the gap. What followed was six minutes of tough, contested footy — grit, pressure, and refusal to give in.
Then the breakthrough — one goal… and then another.
Momentum shifted.
North Shore managed a late behind, but we went into the final break with a solid lead: 5.4 (34) to 3.2 (20).

The final quarter tested us.
Charlee (ankle), Sienna (black eye), Lily (well… let’s just say she wasn’t at her best coming back from the flu ?) — but there was no way this group was coming off.
They dug deeper.

Alayna, quietly building all day on the wing, exploded from a contest — legs pumping, bouncing once, twice, three times — driving us forward for another scoring shot.
It didn’t need to be pretty. It just needed to be ours.
Final score: 5.6 (36) to 3.3 (21)

And then came the moment.
Smiles. Noise. Energy.
A group of young women, beaming ear to ear.
Their first ever win.

This is just the beginning.

Greetings, Penno faithful! It's your loyal club mascot, The Penno Demon, here to deliver the thrilling tale of the MD3 showdown between our mighty Penno team and our worthy adversaries from Camden. The match took place at the Fairfax Reserve, and what a spectacle it was!

The weather was perfect for footy, and our boys were fired up from the first bounce. Though Camden got the jump on us in the opening quarter, leading with 3 goals and 6 behinds for 24 points to our 1 goal for 6 points, we never lost our tenacity.

In the second quarter, we tightened our defense and started to find our rhythm. We added a goal and 2 behinds to our tally while holding Camden to just 3 behinds. Our halftime adjustments clearly set the tone for the rest of the match.

The third quarter was where our Demon spirit truly shone! We outscored Camden by booting 2 goals and 2 behinds, while they could only manage 2 behinds. The resolve and teamwork exhibited by our players were nothing short of inspiring.

In the final quarter, we sealed the match with another goal and 3 behinds. Camden couldn't break through our defense, only managing 2 behinds. The final score saw Penno triumph with 38 points to Camden's 31 points. What an exhilarating comeback!

Special shoutout to our best players of the day: Joshua Bartlett was an absolute standout with his relentless drive, Jake Condon showed strategic brilliance, and Luc White's field coverage was unmatched.
